There’s ‘Snow’ such thing as a fair-weather PR

Michelle Boggis, Junior Account Manager

As a PR, my email account is invaluable – I start the day by checking what has come in overnight, I can hit the send/receive button with my eyes shut and I don’t leave my desk in the evening until I’ve had a final scan over anything outstanding sitting in my inbox. So when did my emails become such an invaluable PR tool?

In the fast paced world of PR, I learnt very quickly to savour any opportunity to take stock and think about things for a minute, and my emails allow me to do just that. They enable me to have conversations without always having to pick up the phone, which is especially handy when contacting journalists who do not want to be bombarded with phone calls.

They also allow me to control the speed of the communication process, because I can precisely time when to send a reply and allow myself more thinking space to craft the best response, whereas on the phone it’s often expected to give an instantaneous answer which isn’t always the best one!

On snowy days like today when the rest of the country seems to grind to a halt, it’s reassuring to know that if I can’t make it into the office, I can log on remotely and rely on my inbox to keep me updated with what’s going on. After all, it’s important that regardless of the weather, I can keep on top of any coverage or potential opportunities for all of my clients and my emails allow me to do just that!
